Terms and Conditions

DIRECT CAMPER HIRE LIMITED

Drivers

The insured vehicle shall be driven only by the hirer or other permitted driver who has completed and signed the Direct Camper Hire‘s Booking Form immediately prior to any hiring.
The terms of our Insurance Policy restrict the hire of Campervans to certain categories of person. Whilst cover can usually be arranged under our Insurance Policy, this must be arranged in advance and you must let us know when you make the booking.
The Insured Vehicle shall not be let out on hire to or be driven by: -

  1. Hirers under 25 or over 75 years of age unless otherwise agreed by the Insurer.
  2. Hirers aged 25 or over unless a full valid UK/EU driving licence has been held for 24 months.
  3. Persons who have been convicted of an offence in connection with the driving of a motor vehicle or motorcycle and/or have had their driving licence endorsed or suspended or penalty points imposed. Parking and not more than two speeding offences in the past 3 years may be ignored. "Spent" convictions, covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 may be disregarded.
  4. Persons who have had their licence revoked by DVLA due to medical grounds or convictions.
  5. Persons who have had their insurance declined and/or renewal refused and/or special insurance terms imposed as a result of claims experience and/or have had their insurance or cover cancelled by any Motor Insurer.
  6. Persons engaged wholly or partly in professional entertainment or professional sports persons.
  7. Jockeys and persons connected with racing of any sort.
  8. Undergraduates and/or students under 25 years of age.
  9. Persons who, whilst driving, have been involved in more than one accident during the past 3 years.
  10. Foreign Service Personnel other than persons born in the United Kingdom.

Drivers under 25 or over 70 may be considered for hire and are charged an additional loading of £10 per day, subject to insurance approval. Additional Drivers are charged from £10 per day each, subject to insurance approval. If you require an Additional Driver to be added to your booking at any time during your Hire Period, we reserve the right to make an additional charge for this.

Booking a Campervan

To book one of our campervans, send us a message on the Contact Us page or simply call us at any time. We will then send you the Booking Form.
When booking 25% of the full amount is due to be paid. Once the booking is agreed between both parties, you will receive a Booking Confirmation form.
If you breach any of the provisions of the contract or do not meet our criteria, we reserve the right to terminate the contract with immediate effect without prejudice to any right of action we may have against you in respect of your breach of such provisions of the contract
We accept payment by most major credit and debit cards. (Payment by credit card incurs a 3% administration charge.) We also accept payment by bank transfer and cheque. If payment is by cheque, it must be received by us a minimum of 10 days before the date on which payment is due.

Security Deposit and Valeting Fee

On collection of the Campervan we will take a Security Deposit from you.  This will done by charging your debit or credit card with £500 which will be refunded in full if the campervan and its contents are returned in the same condition as it was when hired. In addition we will take a Valeting Fee of £30 which will be refunded if the campervan is returned in a clean and tidy state and the waste tank and /or toilet facilities are emptied and cleaned.
You authorise us to deduct from the Security Deposit and the Valeting Fee any amount payable to us under these Terms and Conditions in relation to any damage, breakage or other costs incurred as a result of any breach of these Terms and Conditions or as a result of your negligent act or omission.
The Security Deposit and Valeting Fee will be refunded in full if the campervan is returned:

  • On time
  • Undamaged and in a clean and tidy condition;
  • With all kitchen equipment, additional hired equipment/extras undamaged;
  • With the Porta-Potti empty and cleaned (if hired) and
  • Without any fines, penalties, charges or unpaid road or bridge tolls having been incurred.

We will not be liable for any fines, penalties, charges, costs or unpaid road or bridge tolls incurred during the hire period, and in the event that we require to incur such costs we reserve the right to seek payment of these from you, and you authorise us to deduct these from the Security Deposit.  In the event that we refund Your Security Deposit in full and we subsequently establish that you have incurred any of the liabilities listed above, we reserve the right to recover any such cost from you by deducting this from your debit or credit card.
If the costs due to us by you, or the loss or damage suffered by us as a result of any breach by you of these Terms and Conditions, is greater than the amount of the Security Deposit, then we shall retain the whole of the Security Deposit and seek an additional payment from you for the balance of the amount owed to us.

Collecting the Campervan

Each driver must bring with them both parts of their driving licence, photo ID, a recent utility bill and a method of paying the fully refundable security deposit of £500 and valeting fee of £30.We will advise you in the Booking Confirmation where and when the campervan should  be collected.
If you are late in collecting the campervan, you will not be entitled to a refund. If you have not collected the campervan from us within 24 hours of the time noted in the Booking Confirmation we reserve the right to cancel the booking. In such circumstances we are entitled to charge you the whole of the hire price. If you know you are going to be late you should contact us as soon as possible as we may be able to agree revised arrangements.
The times of collection and return on the campervan will be by prior agreement between you and the Direct Camper Hire.

Using the campervan

During the Hire Period you must:

  • Take all reasonable steps to keep the campervan in a clean and tidy condition and well and properly maintained;
  • Keep the vehicle within the United Kingdom unless alternative hire arrangements have been agreed ;
  • Drive safely and responsibly;
  • Contact us immediately if any vehicle warning lights appear, or if any mechanical or electrical malfunction occurs or any exterior or interior fittings are damaged;
  • Drive only on surfaced roads, with the exception of campsite fields/camping areas.  Care must be taken to ensure that the ground over which you are travelling is suitable and does not cause damage to the campervan; and
  • Use only the correct fuel for the campervan.

During the hire period you must not:

  • Smoke or allow anyone else to smoke in the campervan;
  • Allow any pets or animals to enter the campervan;
  • Operate, drive or use the vehicle in any way which would or might violate the terms of the contract;
  • Drive recklessly, dangerously or without due care and attention;
  • Overload the vehicle beyond its reasonable loading capacity;
  • Leave the campervan unlocked whilst unattended;
  • Tow any trailer caravan or any other item or vehicle;
  • Commit any breach of any UK law, whether relating to road traffic or otherwise, in the vehicle;

Returning the Campervan

The times of collection and return on the campervan will be by prior agreement between you and Direct Camper Hire.
You must let us know as soon as possible if you are liable to be late in returning the vehicle.
If you are late in returning the vehicle we reserve the right to charge the following amounts by deduction from the Security Deposit or otherwise:

  • £50 if you return the Campervan between 1 and 2 hours late, and a full daily hire rate if you return the vehicle more than 2 hours late;
  • £25 for additional insurance costs in the event that you return the vehicle more than 1 hour late;
  • £30 administration charge if the fuel tank is not returned at the level when collected in addition to the cost of fuel to return to the level it was when collected.
  • £30 cleaning charge if the Campervan interior is dirty/soiled and the toilet facilities are not emptied and cleaned.

Breakdowns and Accidents

The vehicle has 24 hour Roadside Breakdown cover.  In the unlikely event of the vehicle breaking down, you must contact the breakdown service on the numbers provided in documents in the campervan.   You must also contact us as soon as possible.
You may use the Breakdown cover in the event of punctures and damage to the windscreen. Note that you will be liable for the cost of any damage to the windscreen (including the cost of any replacement) and the cost of tyre damage or punctures (including the cost of replacing any tyres).
If the vehicle cannot be made roadworthy within 24 hours, we will try our best to make an alternative vehicle available, unless we consider that your act or omission has caused the breakdown.

If you have an accident or damage the vehicle you must contact us as soon as possible. You must also:

  • Record  the contact details of all 3rd parties involved and any witnesses;
  • Notify the police if there is any injury to people or animals, and
  • Complete the accident report form

If the vehicle cannot be made roadworthy within 24 hours, we will try our best to make an alternative vehicle available, unless we consider that your act or omission has caused the breakdown.

Cancellation of Your Booking

If you cancel the booking, the following charges will apply:

  • More than 6 weeks before the start of the hire period, 25% of the hire charges
  • More than 4 weeks but less than 6 weeks before the start of the hire period, 50% of the hire charges
  • Less than 4 weeks before the start of the hire period, 100% of the hire charges

If we cancel the booking for any reason other than:
A breach by you of your contract with us, you will be entitled to a full refund of all sums paid to us.   We shall have no other liability to you.

Insurance

The Hire Price includes comprehensive insurance.  Please note that cover excludes:

  • Any claim where the vehicle has been used in contravention of these Terms and Conditions (see Use of Campervan);
  • Theft where keys have been left in the unoccupied vehicle;
  • Damage to tyres by punctures;
  • Damage to the windscreen or windows;
  • Damage caused to the vehicle by driving under height restricted barriers;
  • Material damage to the interior of the vehicle e.g. breakages, stains etc;
  • Costs of replacing lost or stolen keys ;

In the event that damage is caused to a third party which is not covered by the insurance policy as a result of any of the exclusions (whether in the Insurance Policy or listed above), then you will be liable for any amounts payable to such third party.
In the event that damage is caused to the vehicle which is not covered by the insurance policy as a result of any of the exclusions (whether in the Insurance Policy or listed above), then you will be liable for the amount of our loss.  This loss may include the cost of repairing or replacing the vehicle, and the amount of revenue lost in respect of future bookings already secured in respect of the vehicle at the date on which we are informed of the damage to the Campervan.
There is a damage excess of £700 applying to all vehicles hired. You will be liable to pay the first £700 of all claims with the Security Deposit being applied in part payment of the damage excess, where appropriate. 
The insurance applies to the agreed hire period only. Note that if you return the vehicle late you will not be insured
The Insurance Policy does not provide cover for your own personal property. We strongly recommend that you secure your own personal travel insurance.

Liability,

We will not be liable for any death or personal injury sustained by you, any member of your party, or any third party except as arising directly as a result of our negligence.
With the exception of the provisions outlined in these Terms and Conditions, we will not be liable for any costs incurred in connection with any replacement vehicle costs, travel or accommodation costs or other losses resulting directly or indirectly from any unavailability, breakdown or other failure of the vehicle.

Title/Ownership of the vehicle

The vehicle shall at all times remain the property of the Direct Camper Hire and you shall have no rights to the Campervan other than as hirer of the vehicle for the hire period.  You must not do, permit or cause to be done any act, matter or thing which might prejudicially affect the rights of Direct Camper Hire in respect of the vehicle.

Law of Scotland to apply

The Contract and these Terms and Conditions shall be governed by the laws of Scotland.  You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts in relation to all disputes arising under this Contract.

On submission of the Booking Form the hirer is legally deemed to have agreed and accepted these Terms and Conditions and agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions of the insurance policy which the hirer has seen and read or has had the opportunity to see and read.
